Prosurge has developed new DC SPD to protect EV charging station and energy storage equipment.

With the rapid expansion of DC power systems—ranging from energy storage and industrial DC grids to electric vehicle charging and railway applications—the need for reliable surge protection has never been greater. To address this, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has developed two distinct but complementary standards: IEC 61643-41:2025 and IEC 61643-31. While both apply to DC surge protective devices (SPDs), they serve different applications and have different technical requirements. This article highlights the key differences between the two standards to help manufacturers, system integrators, and end users select the right SPD for their specific DC installation.
